March is Women’s History Month!
I love that we get a month to celebrate, but just like I feel some type of way about having a month to celebrate Black History, it’s the same for Women’s History. Women are such an integral part of the world. We can nurture and correct, we can support and take charge, we can follow and we can lead, we can carry babies and we can care for other babies, we can grow a human in our body for 9 months and we can be a mother to a child that someone else carried for 9 months. We can be anything we put our mind to.
We have also had to endure years in history where they didn’t want to give women a voice. They didn’t want to give us a choice. They wanted us to be seen and not heard. Our opinion, our votes, our thoughts, did not matter. Some would rather just see women birthing babies and being in the kitchen. It is really sad the viewpoint that some take.
Women can be seen by some as the lesser vessel by some. Well thank Heavens, we do not have to fit into a mold that anyone has for us. We are free to be who we are! So today I encourage you to be who you are, not just titles of mom, wife, aunt, sister, daughter, but be you. Be adventurous if you want, take the challenge or decline it, work or don’t work, relax or not, do what makes you happy and what makes you, you.
Women are strong, they stand together and support each other
I also challenge you to have someone you can be authentic with. Find someone you can be yourself with and share your struggles. As much as we wear our capes, we need to also be able to take them off. We don’t need to be strong all of the time.
Growing up I saw so much strength from my mom. It wasn’t because she always wanted to be strong, but she felt like she needed to be. It was later on in life that I found out she had friends that whom she shared things with, and she faced quite a bit of adversity and pain, but she knew she was not alone. We need to be there for each other and help stand with each other as women. We fight similar battles. It can be more challenging for women of color and minority women, but we are all still women. We should use our voices to build each other up and not tear each other down.
In the words of Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.”
